Paul Hollywood’s estranged wife Alex reveals cancer diagnosis

Paul Hollywood's estranged wife Alex has been diagnosed with skin cancer.

The professional chef, who split from the Great British Back Off judge in 2017, shared the news with her fans in an Instagram video, as she urged them to check themselves and visit their GP if they notice anything wrong.

Alex, 54, said her diagnosis was "no big deal" but that it had been a "wake up call".

She said: "So here’s the thing.. I wanted you lot to see this because I know that we’re all scared of the C’ word .. I’m lucky, this is no big deal but it’s a bit of a wake up call and payback for those years I spent poolside and mucking around in boats as a Scuba Instructer, in and out of the water with little or no sunscreen!

"we all need to be more self aware, so with that in mind – I really hope you’ll all have a good look at yourselves tonight in the bathroom mirror – and if you’re not sure about something .. go see your GP!"

In the video, Alex is seen standing in her kitchen with a plaster on her nose.

She says: "Hi, I was in two minds about whether or not to do this video for Instagram, but then I want to tell you why I've got this plaster on the side of my nose and these marks on my cheek.

"A couple of weeks ago, I went to go and see my GP and he diagnosed me with BCC, that's Basal Cell Carcinoma, that is benign skin cancer to you and me, and yes, it did freak me out a little bit at first, but he sent me to go and see a specialist who dealt with it straight away, very quickly, very painlessly.

"Now I've got a couple of little marks left and they're going to fade after a couple of weeks and everything's going to be fine, everything's going to go back to normal.

"So I just want to say to you, if you notice anything unusual about your skin, any marks that won't go away, any moles that change shape, go and get them checked out. If you get them checked out and dealt with straight away you've got nothing to worry about and there is nothing to be scared of. It can be dealt with."

Alex's followers praised her for speaking out.

One said: "Well done Alex. I had the same biopsy done on my nose, waiting results, as susceptible to bcc., have had three treated. I tell everyone get checked, it is quickly dealt with on NHS these days."

Another commented: "Well done Alex.and thanks for sharing. Glad your ok"

While one told her: "Pleased you'll make a full recovery and very brave to tell the world. You have an amazing voice and the looks to go with it"
