What is Meghan Markle’s diet and exercise regime? How the duchess stays in shape

But as she adapts to life in the Royal Family, we look at how the modern-day duchess likes to stay in shape…

What is Meghan Markle’s diet?

Foodie Meghan is certainly no stranger to the kitchen, and said her devotion to cooking began when she was young.

She said that she would often visit her lighting director dad on set and she would help out with the catered food, and from here her passion for delicious food grew.

According to Delish.com, this is her typical day in meals:

  • Wake up: Hot water with lemon
  • Breakfast: Steel-cut oats with bananas and agave syrup drizzled on it
  • Lunch: Salad with protein of some kind
  • Snack: Apples with almond butter and sea salt
  • Late Afternoon Pick-Me-Up: Green juice
  • Dinner: Pasta with zucchini, lots of Parmesan and a glass of wine

However when she is having a relaxed day, her menu looks more like this:

  • Breakfast: An omelette with fresh herbs and cheese, and toast
  • Lunch: Seafood. And French fries, if she's lucky.
  • Dinner: "Typically soup. I'm more peckish then, so I usually go lighter for dinner.”

Meghan’s favourite dessert is said to be win, and even named her lifestyle blog The Tig after her all-time favourite Tignanello.

She prefers wine to green juice, which she calls a necessary evil.

The actress also told the site: “French fries and vino are my vices.”

What is Meghan Markle not allowed to eat?

Unfortunately for Meghan, one of her ultimate favourite indulgent foods has also been banned from Buckingham Palace.

According to Royal chef Darren McGrady, Her Majesty has banned pasta, rice and potatoes from the royal menu as she prefers to stay away from carb-loaded foods.

This is no doubt sad for Meghan Markle who previously revealed to Delish.com that her go-to dish is pasta with slow-cooked courgette, and went as far as to describe it as "filthy, sexy mush."

What is Meghan Markle’s exercise regime?

With her charity work, previous acting roles and now transitioning to life in the royal family, Meghan definitely likes to stay active.

She is a yoga fanatic (often doing candlelit classes) which is not surprising giving her mum is an instructor.

The Suits actress said: "I love an intense vinyasa class – and even better if it’s blasting hip hop and done in a dark room with candlelight.

"The best! I’ll do yoga a couple of times a week – hot yoga specifically.”

And previously she has attributed her lean body to her Pilates classes with personal trainer Heather Dorak.

Nobody rocks a pair of denim cut-offs like Meghan, and her princess-perfect pins are probably because one of her favourite exercises is a six-mile run.

She said: “Running has always been my form of moving meditation, which I relish because it allows me to get out of my head."

She hones her glutes at the supermodels’ favourite workout The Skinny Bitch Collective, founded by trainer Russell Bateman.

The duchess is also a big fan of US-based class Pilates Platinum, which reinvents the stretching of a reformer Pilates machine into a cardio and strength-training workout.

A 55-minute class can burn 700 calories and gives you abs you’ll want to show off in a crop top.

She also swears by the core-toning exercises on personal trainer Tracy Anderson’s workout DVDs, loved by Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian.
