Remember when Cheryl dressed like THIS? How the pop diva ditched the tracksuits, Von Dutch caps and dodgy crop tops to become a label queen

But once upon a time Chez was known for a rather different look – and it involved a LOT of tracksuits, low-rise denim and many questionable belts.

The 35-year-old made her musical comeback after four years out of the industry with new single Love Made Me Do It, which was released today.

The last few years have been all change for Cheryl, who welcomed her first child Bear – now 20 months – in March 2017, but now she's ready to return to the spotlight despite splitting from One Direction and Bear's dad Liam Payne in July.

But Chez's personal life isn't the only thing that's had its ups and downs – her wardrobe has too!

While we wait with bated breath to see what other tunes she's going to release, we look back on Chez's iconic fashion throwbacks – including tracksuits and THOSE belts.

The ab-tastic look

Cheryl might be the queen of couture now but not so long ago she favoured oversized belts and low-rise denim.

She was also a fan of flashing her abs, especially during 2005 – three years after Girls Aloud formed – when she opted for several belly-baring looks.

And it seems Cheryl tapped into the matching co-ord trend early.

She was pictured wearing a denim two-piece at Westlife's album launch party in 2002 and some incredible kitten heels…

The tracksuit+ trucker cap combo

And when she wasn't wearing low-cut jeans (often with a chunky belt) Chez opted for trackies teamed with one of her favourite accessories – a trucker cap. Remember them?!

Cheryl was a fan of this look until around 2006 when she famously married footballer Ashley Cole at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.

The chunky belt

One of our favourite Chez looks has to be the oversized belt.

From midis to jeans and even the tiniest mini skirt we've ever seen, Cheryl teamed the accessory with everything.

In 2008, she wore a pretty chic animal-print style to a Julien MacDonald show at London Fashion Week – and while we're not keen on some of Chez's looks, we have to admit we're fans of this particular belt.

Bizarre headwear

In 2005, Cheryl also went through a phase of wearing some pretty bizarre hats, including one leather style which looks a lot like a swimming cap.

Who styled Girls Aloud?

  • Spice Girls stylist Kenny Ho worked his magic on the Love Machine video and What Will The Neighbours Say? tour.
  • Victoria Adcock, of Christina Aguilera fame, spiced up the Tangled Up shows and still works with Cheryl today.
  • In 2015 X Factor stylist Frank Strachen began styling the band and helped them discover their individual style.

All hail the label queen…

Fast-forward over a decade and Chez's fashion choices tell a very different story.

Elegant, timeless and chic, Cheryl's love of designer labels has seen her step out in a number of huge names recently.

Could Cheryl's transformation be down to her team of trusted stylists?

The singer has been working with the same team of experts for the last four years – including close pal and PA Lily England, stylist Anna Hughes-Chamberlain (who has also dressed the likes of Maya Jama and Jourdan Dunn), make-up artist Karin Darnell (a beauty guru who's worked with Rihanna and regularly creates incredible looks on Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon) and hair stylist, Wendy Iles.

Chez and her team posed in a very similar snap four years ago.

Arriving at Prince Charles' 70th Birthday Gala last month, Cheryl wore a show-stopping red dress by Ulyana Sergeenko.

Chez teamed the one-sleeved wrap design with red Louboutins.

Just days earlier, Cheryl was pictured heading to lunch with PA pal Lily England, wearing a £645 camo shirt dress by Amiri.

One of Cheryl's favourite designers seems to be Zuhair Murad.

The star has worn two breathtaking styles recently, including a white beaded lace gown at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and a sheer sequin feather gown for pal Nigel Hall's wedding in September.

The show stopping dress was studded with jewels and Cheryl paired the look with barely-there heels.

And at best pal Nicole Roberts' birthday shindig at the start of last month, the mum-of-one wore a gorgeous neon striped dress by JW Anderson.

In the video for her new track, Chez – who is sporting a new short hairdo – shakes things up by wearing a rather peculiar pair of ruched thigh-high boots, a sequin jacket and an over-size, cropped, leather top.

The singer is also expected to perform her single on The X Factor next week (November 18) and we can't wait to see what she wears next.

It certainly seems Chez's style has taken a turn for the better – and not a trucker cap or trackie in sight.
