Mum reveals how ditching just one food helped her shed 4 stone in just 7 months

Emma Cone was so self conscious about her weight she wouldn’t even let her husband put his arm around her in bed.

The 35-year-old had been gradually gaining weight for several years but when she saw photos of herself on holiday in a bikini she was determined to take action.

And mum Emma, from Hull, had an extra special reason for slimming down .

She wanted to be able to fit into her dream wedding dress as she prepared to tie the knot with partner, Craig, and then look good in a bikini on their honeymoon.

But there was one food she couldn’t get enough of – Big Tasty’s from McDonald’s.

Emma knew she would have to ditch her fast food treat to make sure she slimmed down for the big day.

She said: "I wouldn’t even let my husband put his arm around me in bed in case he could feel my belly.

“I was the biggest I had ever been – even when I was pregnant I didn’t weigh that much!

"I was wearing size 16 clothes and I hated it. It affected my relationship with my partner, now my husband, and it really got me down.”

Cleaner Emma had always been self-conscious about her weight but when she was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid she began to pile on the pounds.

At her heaviest, she weighed 14stone 5lbs.

But in January last year, she decided to take action.

Emma ditched her McDonald’s addiction and joined her local gym.

She said: "When they were out I was eating two or three of those a week and I would also drink two or three cans of coke every day.

"I was eating more takeaways each week than I would like to admit, and I enjoyed drinking at the weekend."

Emma, who works out at Xercise4Less, has now cut out McDonald’s, fizzy drinks and takeaways.

She has learned that she can still enjoy herself at the weekend by eating normally and being in control of her portion sizes.

As well as overhauling her diet by replacing burgers with healthy foods, she also trains three times a day, four days a week.

Emma made sure she kept her goal in sight, explaining: “We go on a summer holiday every year and last year I absolutely hated the photos taken of me on our holiday.

"I didn’t want to look like that again on holiday this year.

"I’d saved all my old bikinis and holiday clothes from before I put weight on and was determined to get back into those.”

And by the time her wedding arrived in July last year, Emma had shed four stone and dropped to just 10stone 5lbs.

She said: “When I found myself struggling in the gym, I would say to myself ‘Bikini, bikini, keep going!’"

But she has now set herself a new goal – 9stone, the weight she was when she was 20.

Emma said: "I got to where I wanted to be for my holiday and I don’t want to put any additional pressure on myself.

"I’m still losing weight now and my aim is to get down to 9½ stone, which I haven’t been since I was 20.”

Emma is now feeling better than ever about her body.

And she’s not the only one who’s a fan.

She said: “My husband had always said he loved me as much then as he ever has but now I feel much happier in myself.”
