9 of the most unlikely TV crushes ever

Admit it. At some point in your life, you’ve had a crush on a TV character that you realise is a bit weird.

That could be because they’re a cartoon. Or that the character is a bit of a douche. Or a serial killer. Whatever, you still get a bit flustered whenever they come on screen.

Digital Spy is a safe space. Here’s a round-up of some of the most unlikely TV character crushes, so you don’t feel alone.

1. Gadget, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers

Yeah, sure, she’s a mouse, but she’s a super smart mouse, an inventor and generally just seems like a nice person to be around. Of all of our childhood crushes, we feel this is the most acceptable to air in a public forum. Oh, and she’s got good hair.

2. Robot, Lost in Space

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot bot when Lost in Space debuted on Netflix earlier this year and they weren’t ashamed to admit it.

Unlikely it may be, but at least with this crush there’s an actual human performer under the robot exterior. It’s the original 1960s robot we feel sorry for – where’s the love for that one?

3. Marge Simpson, The Simpsons

We all know Homer is batting waaay above his average when it comes to Marge Simpson, but maybe that’s what makes this crush so widespread. It gives hope to any man (or woman) that you can stay married to a smoking hottie, no matter what you do AND you can eat and drink whatever you want.

4. Ted Hastings, Line of Duty

Maybe it’s the lengthy close-quarters interrogation scenes or just the general air of authority that surrounds Superintendent Ted Hastings, but pretty much every Line of Duty fan will admit to a crush on Hastings at some point and want him to be their fella.

You just better not be a bent copper.

5. Salem, Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Look, we know Salem is a cat BUT he is actually a 500-year-old witch who just happens to have been turned into a cat for punishment. His crime? Trying to take over the world. He continues his scheming as a cat – so it’s basically a bad-boy crush, just in cat form. Totally acceptable.

6. Drusilla, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

We could have been obvious and gone for the likes of Spike or Angel, but there was always something about Drusilla for us. To go with the obvious danger of her being a vampire, there was the unpredictability of her personality that drew us in. There’s enough bad-boy crushes out there, so there’s room for a bad-girl crush, even if the TOTALLY UNHINGED AND UNDEAD Drusilla would almost definitely kill you.

7. Trent and Daria, Daria

Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn’s adult animation Daria catered to all tastes. Trent was the best friend’s cool older brother and an artist (obviously), while Daria was the smart girl who always seemed to say what you were thinking. They couldn’t be more well-set crushes if you tried – if only they weren’t animated…

8. Dexter Morgan, Dexter

As with the other actors on this list, we’re not saying this is unlikely because of the way Michael C Hall looks – guy’s a hottie, no question – but for the very fact that you feel a bit weird for liking them. Dexter might have become more of a family man over the seasons, yet he’s still a serial killer, even if he does only kill other criminals (mostly). We’re counting pre-lumberjack days only, by the way.

9. Beast Boy, Teen Titans

We might have gone for Raven, but Beast Boy stood out because he just wanted to have fun and was a bit silly. Basically, he was about as far removed from DC as you could think. If he wanted to transform into a whale, Beast Boy just did it and who can resist that sort of ‘devil-may-care’ approach to life? We couldn’t.
