Jeremy Clarkson scores a ratings win as rebooted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? attracts 6million viewers

The former Top Gear presenter won over viewers presenting the revived TV quiz which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Sun columnist Jeremy, 58, pulled no punches when it came to slapping down the contestants who had crumbled in the famous chair.

Prison officer Ricky was the first to try to answer 15 questions correctly to become a millionaire.

But he walked away with just £8000 after using up all of his lifelines earlier than Jeremy was expecting.

While others who went home with nothing after failing to pick the right answer, were branded a "disaster".

Nobody was safe from Jeremy's trademark wit as anyone from Donald Trump to Richard Hammond came in the firing line.

Speaking before the series aired, Jeremy said: “I have always loved the show and am thrilled to be involved with its rebirth.

"I’m a big fan of quiz shows and I’m looking forward to hosting this iconic TV show and hopefully making a few millionaires!”

Fans rushed to Twitter to praise the new presenter, with one viewer saying it was "the highlight" of their year.

Another put: "@JeremyClarkson is brilliant and a perfect choice of host."

A third begged Jeremy to return for a full series after the 20th anniversary specials.

They commented: "@JeremyClarkson fancy making this new series of Millionaire a regular thing? Absolutely love it so far. Cheers in advance."
