Meet Bake Off 2019's Amelia Le Bruin – fashion designer from Halifax who was eliminated in week three

THE Great British Bake Off continued with episode three of season 10, with fashion designer Amelia Le Bruin being the latest contestant to receive the boot.

But just who is Amelia and what's her day-to-day profession?

Who is Bake Off 2019 contestant Amelia?

Amelia Le Bruin is a 24 year old fashion designer from Halifax, who has been baking for 19 years.

Watching her mum and grandma creating beautiful cake decorations inspired her to start baking as a child.

Amelia grew up in Halifax and studied in Leeds and Leicester.

She honed her baking skills while at university, baking for friends and college fundraising events.

Now living in London and working as a sportswear designer, Amelia draws on her northern roots to inspire her baking and believes that freshly farmed produce is essential for a satisfying bake.

Amelia documents her life and shares bake on her Instagram account here.

What has happened to Amelia on Bake Off so far?

  • Week One, Cakes – Amelia impressed with her Christmas inspired Signature Bake. Her Technical Challenge angel cake was judged to be suitably pastel coloured but she ran out of time to complete her carousel themed Showstopper.
  • Week Two, Biscuits – The judges said her Pistachio, Almond & Raisin Nougat Biscuit Bars were tasty but "underdone". While her Dolphin sculpture failed to improve things.
  • Week Three, Bread – The fashion designer was eliminated during Bread Week as she struggled to shine with her Tear and Share Bread, made the worst Soft Baps with burgers and her scored bread Showstopper.

What has Amelia said about being on Bake Off 2019?

Speaking about signing up for Bake Off 2019 Amelia said: "I have wanted to get into the tent since series one, it’s still not sunk in, but it’s a dream come true."

When asked what the show is like to be on, she said: "It was all so much fun, meeting all the bakers, meeting the judges and presenters, there wasn’t one moment from that first week that I didn’t enjoy.

"It was magical."

When did The Great British Bake Off 2019 start?

The Great British Bake Off returned on August 27, 2019.

The new series kicked off on Channel 4 at 8pm until 9.30pm, much like the 2018 series which started on August 28.

Bake Off is expected to run for 10 consecutive weeks and the final is likely to be in November 2019.

What is the Great British Bake Off prize?

With all the drama, sweat and tears that the dedicated bakers go through, you would expect they would be aiming for some grand cash prize, but the answer is no.

The winning prize is just flowers and a cake stand, at least that's what has happened so far.

Previous Bake Off contestant Martha Collison, who reached the quarter-finals in the 2014 series, confirmed to Barrelhouse: “Everyone is so surprised and thinks there must be some secret cash, but all we really get is a bunch of flowers and a cake stand.

“But then, you also kind of become a national treasure just by doing it because everyone in Britain loves the Bake Off so much.”
