Netflix is making big changes to its classic profile icons after 5 years

Netflix always loves to update its user interface, for better or worse. Those annoying autoplay videos, the TV app side bar, etc.

But one thing that has remained static for the five years since they were introduced: the profile icons. Sure, they’re fun and cute, but kind of flat and bland.

They’ve got a nice little touch-up now, adding more detail and colour, but more interestingly is the ability to set your profile icon to one of a handful of the most famous Netflix original faces.

That’s right, if you so fancy you can set your profile icon as Jessica Jones, Kimmy Schmidt, characters from Orange is the New Black or Stranger Things, or even one of Queer Eye‘s Fab Five.

The profile picture updates will be rolled out over the next few weeks, according to the streaming service’s blog.

Netflix has been trialling a new Ultra tier for subscribers, who want to get higher video quality and the ability to view on more screens at once for a higher cost.

On the other hand, it looks like ITV could take its programmes away from Netflix in the future, possibly to make a new streaming service with the BBC and Channel 4.
