‘The View’: Whoopi Goldberg slams Trump for labeling some Bahamian refugees ‘gang members’

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg is slamming President Donald Trump’s “racist” remarks about Bahamian refugees fleeing Hurricane Dorian’s devastation for the United States.

Thousands have been fleeing the Bahamas since Dorian slammed into the island chain a week ago as a Category 5 monster. Entire communities were leveled, leaving thousands homeless and food and water scarce. The official death toll stands at 44.

On Monday, President Trump suggested that some of the Bahamians seeking refuge in the U.S. are “very bad people,” including “gang members” and “drug dealers.”

“Everybody needs totally proper documentation,” Trump told reporters. “I don’t want to allow people that weren’t supposed to be in the Bahamas to come into the United States, including some very bad people and some very bad gang members and some very, very bad drug dealers.”

On Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg questioned: “How do you not look at this man and say this is a racial problem?”

The EGOT winner noted that although people criticize her for frequently bringing up race, “this is a race card – the card can’t get any bigger than this,” she said.

Goldberg sarcastically added: “Cause I guess sometimes when the hurricane’s coming and you’re trying to flee, you might not realize you don’t have all the right papers, because, of course, your island is being devastated. But, silly me, why bring that up?”

Her fellow co-hosts agreed with her.

Sunny Hostin called Trump hypocritical and “cruel,” noting that he “didn’t have a problem with the Bahamas when he hosted the 2009 Miss Universe pageant.”

Joy Behar suggested Trump’s response would be different if a hurricane had hit Norway.

“This is a guy who had the Taliban – he’s going to have a big meeting with the Taliban,” Behar said. “He loves Kim Jong Un and (Vladimir) Putin, and yet these people who are fleeing a hurricane are suddenly criminals. He’s so despicable, he makes my (hair) stand up.”

Meghan McCain said “humanity seems completely removed” from Trump’s response to natural disasters. As for Trump’s planned Taliban meeting? “You’re OK with terrorists, you’re not OK with refugees from a hurricane?”
