We’re still a long way off from seeing the next season of True Detective actually air on our screens, but at least we know that the cast taking part for its third run is shaping up to be a pretty great one.
Case in point: Deadline has confirmed the addition of two new recurring cast members for season three in the form of Quantico‘s Josh Hopkins and Rellik star Jodi Balfour.
According to the publication, Hopkins will play a private attorney called Jim Dobkins who is involved in deposing state police detectives as part of an ongoing investigation, while Balfour, who recently starred in Netflix super hit The Crown as Jackie Kennedy, will play Lori, a love interest for Stephen Dorff’s character Detective Roland West.
And that’s not the only casting announcement for today, either.
Deadline also reports that the HBO series has also lined up This Is Us‘ little Randall star Lonnie Chavis to play the son of lead character Wayne Hays (Oscar winner Mahershala Ali) at the age of nine.
Phew. Now those are some good names.
The third season of the anthology show will also star Carmen Ejogo, Scoot McNairy, Mamie Gummer, Ray Fisher and Jon Tenney, the latter of whom revealed last month that he thinks this series will return True Detective to its season one glory days.

“I can’t get into real specifics, but I think it does move a little bit in the direction of season one… a little bit more maybe than season two,” Tenney said.
“The scripts are just so compelling. Again, really moving. The company is great. I can’t really say a whole lot, but I’m thrilled to be part of it and I think people are going to really dig it.”
