Why Kate Gosselin From 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' Allegedly Never Speaks to Her Parents

When it comes to reality TV stars who are no strangers from media attention, Kate Gosselin tops the list. It all started back with her TV series, Jon & Kate Plus 8, that she starred in with her husband, Jon, and her eight children. The show came to a screeching halt once Jon and Kate announced their separation, but Kate was still determined to stay on the air. Through other reality TV ventures and interviews with her kids by her side, she’s managed to stay in the spotlight for over a decade.

Fame certainly has its consequences, however — and it seems Kate may not be on the best terms with her parents. Here’s what certain news outlets have reported.

When Jon & Kate Plus 8 was on the air, fans may remember a few of Kate’s family members making cameo appearances in certain episodes. “Aunt Jodi,” Kate’s sister-in-law, was often seen having fun with the kids (though later she denounced the show as well as Jon and Kate’s parenting). But when it came to Kate’s mother and father, Charlene and Kenton Kreider, they were noticeably absent. It seems the show may have put a serious rift in their relationship as well.

According to In Touch Weekly in 2017, Kate had been estranged from her parents for years. And dating back to 2009, Jon even said in an interview that Kate’s parents were not involved in the Gosselin family’s lives. Jon alleged that Kate’s parents wanted to just be “drop-in grandparents,” and even though they lived close in proximity to the Gosselins, Jon and Kate wanted nothing to do with them.

Kate’s sister claimed Kate hadn’t talked to any of her family members in years

So, here's what 43 looks like…. sigh. My kids (and our friends) took me out to dinner AND ordered me a surprise dessert… and sang loudly to me! It was super fun! #BestBirthdayPresentEver #LoveMyFamilyAndFriends ❤️

It wasn’t just Aunt Jodi who publicly spoke out against the Gosselins. Kate’s sister, Kendra Wilber, took to the media to explain her extremely painful relationship with the family. According to Daily Mail Online, Kendra said Kate had not spoken to any of her family members for years, and even when the family has tried to reach out and reconcile, Kate was having none of it. Kendra believes Kate’s money and fame went to her head, and now her average family members just don’t fit in with her lifestyle anymore. “I guess we weren’t totally on board with what was going on with the kids, I guess we weren’t excited enough for her and were concerned about her family,” Kendra said. “… We are just normal everyday people and she doesn’t want us to be part of her life.”

Kendra mentioned she wanted nothing more than to reconcile her relationship with her sister so she could at least see her nieces and nephews again, but getting in touch with Kate had been nearly impossible. And Kendra also verified that Kate didn’t speak to their parents since they were not as “open-minded” as she was. As for where their relationship stands, we’re not sure — but we’re guessing they’re still not in touch.

Is Kate truly estranged from her parents? It seems she was, though there were also reports that Kate’s mother, Charlene, was commenting online in defense of her daughter. Radar Online reports Charlene posted on a website that Kate’s sister-in-law, Jodi was not a good person. “Since they couldn’t be on tv anymore, they tried to get the show shut down—that’s called jealousy,” Charlene allegedly wrote of Jodi and her own son, Kevin. “Jodie just LOVED being on tv and milked it for all it was worth!! When she couldn’t be paid to be on the show her next move was to claim it was harmful to the kida to be on tv!!” she added.

Not only that, but Charlene also added that Kate is a “great mom” who “loves her kids more than anyone or anything and would do anything for them. I know this firsthand, people, so please stop tearing her down!!”

Could Kate and her mother be on better terms than any of us knew? Perhaps, though this online conversation took place all the way back
