Here's what you need to know about the Democratic congressman's plans for the future, and whether running for President in 2020 is on his to-do list.
How old is Beto O'Rourke?
Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke is 46 years old.
The dad-of-three was born on September 26, 1972, to El Paso County Judge Pat O'Rourke and Melissa Martha.
His step-grandfather Fred Korth was the Secretary of the Navy under President John F. Kennedy.
He obtained the Spanish nickname Beto from loved ones, who were keen to distinguish him from his grandad who shared the same name.
He is married to Amy Hoover Sanders, 35, and they have three children, Ulysses, Henry and Molly.
O'Rourke's father was killed in July 2001 at 58-years-old, as he was struck by a passing car while riding his bike.
Will he run for President in 2020?
O’Rourke won over more than 48 per cent of the state compared to Ted Cruz, who received 51 per cent of votes.
His race broke fundraising records and urged voter turnout all across Texas.
Though his tight loss to Cruz sparked excitement and hope for his supporters and allies that he might be running in the 2020 presidential race, O'Rourke said that he will definitely not be running for President in 2020.
He said to CNN: "The answer is no. Our children are 11, they're 10, and they're 7 years old. We've told them we're going to take these almost two years out of our life to run this race, and then we're devoted and committed to being a family again.
"It's a definitive no."
He added: "I will not be a candidate for president in 2020. That's I think as definitive as those sentences get."
Despite O'Rourke's comments, staffers on his Senate campaign have discussed a potential 2020 presidential run, with many of them hopeful he will ultimately enter the race, multiple people involved in those conversations said.
