Police hunt for witness in bid to catch rapist who attacked girl, 14, in Tesco Extra’s disabled toilet

  • Police say the girl, 14, was raped in Tesco Extra store in Clifton Moor, York
  • The incident took place on a March Saturday afternoon , although this is  unclear
  • The girl did not report the alleged rape to security at store or police at the time 
  • West Yorkshire Police want to speak to an elderly couple in relation to incident

A desperate appeal for witnesses has been launched by police after a 14-year-old girl was raped in a supermarket’s disabled toilet.

West Yorkshire Police want to speak to an elderly couple who spoke to the victim after the alleged ‘serious sexual assault’ at a Tesco Extra in the Clifton Moor area of York.

It is believe the incident took place on a Saturday afternoon in March although the date remains unclear.

Authorities want to speak to an elderly couple who spoke to ‘a visibly distraught white teenage girl in company with an older white teenage boy’.

West Yorkshire Police want to speak to an elderly couple who spoke to the victim after the alleged ‘serious sexual assault’

West Yorkshire Police confirmed the alleged offence was not reported to police of security at the store at the time. 

PC Simon Kingdon, of Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit, said: ‘We appreciate that the information we have is vague but we are hopeful that this will have stuck in someone’s memory.

‘We are interested in speaking not only to the elderly couple who have approached the victim but also anyone else who recalls seeing a visibly distraught white teenage girl in company with an older white teenage boy in this store in March.

‘Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit via 101, quoting crime reference 13180170130. If calling from the North Yorkshire area, you will need to select the option on the 101 line to be put through to West Yorkshire Police.’
