Myanmar’s first vice president, Myint Swe, is acting president until a successor to Htin Kyaw is named.
His resignation comes at a time when Myanmar is facing increasing international criticism for its handling of the Rohingya crisis. Nearly 700,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar in six months amid a brutal military crackdown, described by the UN as a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing”.
