A Saudi Arabian student studying architecture at the University of Miami was murdered in his off-campus apartment — and cops are seeking a blond man for questioning in regards to the grisly slaying.
Yasser Talal Ibrahim Abualfaraj was found Sunday afternoon by his roommate inside the Santona Street apartment in Coral Gables, Florida, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
The 23-year-old had been stabbed several times, the Miami Herald reported, citing law enforcement sources.
Authorities on Tuesday released a sketch of a blond man whom they are seeking to question in the death of the third-year architecture student.
Police said the man — pictured with a black baseball cap — “was observed in the early morning hours” at the Santona Condominium and “was involved in a suspicious incident.”
The man, authorities said, “is wanted for questioning only.”
Abualfaraj’s friend Josh Kaufman told Local 10 News that the victim was “the nicest kid I’ve honestly ever met.”
“He’s the last person on this earth that deserves it,” Kaufman told the news outlet. “[He] didn’t do anything wrong, held his values, straight A student.”
Kaufman went on to say he knew something was amiss Monday when Abualfaraj — who always showed up for class — was not there.
“He was going to be a great architect,” Kaufman said. “He had a great future ahead of him, and it’s sad he came to America to study and learn his trade and be successful, and it sucks that it happened.”
The University of Miami said in a statement: “The University is deeply saddened by this tragic news, and has made grief counselors and support staff available to the UM community through the Counseling Center,” according to the Sun-Sentinel.
