Football mad Adele is refusing to cheer on England in the World Cup – to save her vocal cords.
Adele is currently doing a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas until March next year.
To avoid "excessive stress" on her voice, she is reportedly avoiding screaming for her team in the World Cup.
According to The Sun, the singer is forcing herself not to shout when England play and instead is taking to only whispering when she’s off stage.
An insider at the hotel where she is performing told the paper: “She is really committed to giving her best each night at her show.
“One of the key features has been protecting her voice in between the Friday and Saturday nights.
“She wants it in top shape for each show and is going to extreme lengths."
Before her shows, she reportedly rarely speaks to anyone, and if she does, then it’s a whisper.
Adele’s not had it easy with her voice and in the past has been forced to cancel planned shows when her voice has been damaged.
In 2011 she suffered a haemorrhage to her vocal cords after singing live on a French radio programme.
Dr Steven Zeitels, whose celebrity patients have included the likes of Lionel Richie, performed a two-hour surgery to try and save her voice – using microsurgical instruments and a laser to remove a polyp and repair a burst blood vessel.
In her first public appearance afterwards, Adele thanked him personally on stage when she collected her first of six Grammy Awards months later in 2012.
She said: “It was a bit traumatic. Thank God my voice healed. I stuck to all of the rules they gave me.”
Years later in 2017 she was forced to cancel the final two shows of her world tour at Wembley Stadium.
The tour had seen her perform 121 shows across the world including Australia and New Zealand.
In an emotional post she revealed she’d damaged her vocal cords again, saying: “On medical advice I simply am unable to perform over the weekend, to say I’m heartbroken would be a complete understatement.”
This residency in Vegas is second time lucky for Adele who had to cancel the first booked shows after it had been ‘absolutely destroyed’ by delays and covid.
In a teary video on Instagram in January, Adele apologised to fans saying: “I’m so sorry but my show ain’t ready.
“We’ve tried absolutely everything that we can to pull it together in time and for it to be good enough for you but we’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and covid.”
