In a statement released via his website, his family announces that the singer/actor, who appeared in a few Tyler Perry films, passed away on Friday, October 21.
AceShowbiz -America has lost one of its multi-talented stars. Zuri Craig, who once was a finalist on “America’s Got Talent” as part of the Craig Lewis band, passed away on Friday, October 22, his family has announced. He was 44 years old.
Craig’s family broke the sad news via his official website on Sunday. “It is with profound sadness that we announce the transition of our beloved son, brother and friend, Zuri Craig,” they said in a statement. “We thank you in advance for your prayers.”
“Please honor our privacy at this unimaginable time of mourning,” they added. The cause of death is yet to be disclosed but more details are likely shared at a later date as they promised, “Official details to follow.”
In the caption, the grieving family went on noting, “Please keep our family and friends in your prayers. More info forthcoming…”
Tribute quickly poured in from fans and friends of Craig. “My heart is broken,” one person commented on Instagram. Another lamented, “This hurt man.” A third admitted, “I’m in shock. Love his work,” while some others were in disbelief as they said things like, “Nah. This can’t be real” and “I can’t believe this please don’t let it be true.”
Others sent their condolences to Craig’s family. “So sorry to read this! Such a great talent,” one person penned. Another echoed the sentiment, “My condolences to his family and friends and Tyler Perry.”
Someone who seems to know Craig personally said, “Cousin I feel like I was hit with a ton of bricks. Your family will miss your presence. You will forever be in our heart.” Another mourner wrote, “One of the most-authentic loving souls I’ve ever had the pleasure to be in company with. I love you, Friend!”
Craig wowed the “AGT” judges in 2015 when he and his singing partner Jeffrey Lewis delivered their impressive renditions of James Brown‘s “This is a Man’s World” and Mary J. Blige‘s “I’m Goin’ Down”. They, however, couldn’t best ventriloquist Paul Zerdin and finished in fifth place.
Craig went on to star in several Tyler Perry projects, including “Madea’s Big Happy Family“, “A Madea Christmas” and “Madea Gets a Job“. He recently also worked on a web series titled “Black Hollywood: Atlanta“, which held a casting call last July.
