Amy Walsh opens up on Emmerdale send-off before she goes on maternity leave

She’s just weeks away from welcoming her first child, and Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh has opened up about having a send-off with her co-stars before going on maternity leave.

Admitting she and her co-stars are “like family”, Amy exclusively tells OK! that she has plans to say goodbye to the cast before she exits the ITV soap: “I think we’re going to do a little meal, just a few of us, so I can say bye.

“They’re so gorgeous the people there. We're like a family. Not everyone has friends and family up here so you do see each other a lot.”

Amy was joined by several of her co-stars as she celebrated her baby shower recently, with the likes of Fiona Wade, Michelle Hardwick and Laura Norton all in attendance.

Natalie Ann Jamieson and Olivia Bromley were also at the celebration, which was exclusively covered by OK!, while Amy’s former co-stars Gemma Atkinson and Louisa Clein showed their support for the mum to be, too.

Speaking after the event, the 34 year old described the stars as “sisters” and spoke of how close the bond they all share is.

She told us: “My friends at work are literally like six sisters to me. We're all so close.

"We've all been through thick and thin. We've all been through a million things together."

She continued as she spoke about her baby shower: "You get so close to people, and being here and celebrating with them is amazing.

"We had Fiona [Wade's] wedding two years ago, Laura [Norton] had a baby last year. It's like we've all had our little moment and this is them being there for me and it's just so lovely."

Amy held the milestone event at The Faversham in Leeds, with her famous siblings organising various games and activities for the gorgeous day.

While actor sister Sally Sheppard, who once starred on Emmerdale, wrote a personalised poem for Amy, Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh put together a video montage of moments featuring Amy being a doting auntie to her seven nephews and her friends’ children.

The sweet personal touches understandably left Amy feeling all the emotions.

“There was not a dry eye in the house,” says Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale. “It was a very emotional day.

"I loved it all but I think the most beautiful moment was from my sisters.”

Amy is expecting her first child with her partner, EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith, who plays Gray Atkins in the BBC One soap.
