Arnold Spielberg, the father of Steven Spielberg has died.
The computer designer passed away on Tuesday (August 25) of natural causes, his family shared with The Hollywood Reporter. He was 103-years-old.
Arnold is survived by his four children – Steven, Anne, Sue, and Nancy – as well as four stepchildren, 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In a collective statement, his children said that Arnold “taught them to ‘love to research,’ to ‘expand their mind,’ to ‘keep their feet on the ground but reach for the stars’ and perhaps most fatefully to ‘look up.’”
Arnold enlisted in the U.S. Army a month after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He was awarded a Bronze star, and his stories inspired Steven years later to direct Saving Private Ryan.
Due to the pandemic, a celebration of Arnold‘s life has been tentatively set for fall 2021.
Our thoughts are with Arnold Spielberg‘s loved ones at this time.
