Barbie celebrates reaching $1 BILLION global grosses with another weekend leading the box office… as Greta Gerwig becomes first solo female director to helm billion-dollar film
Barbie continued to stretch her long legs, topping the box office for the third week in a row.
The adventure fantasy starring Margo Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as her go-to guy Ken earned $53 million at the domestic box office this weekend.
Globally, the film has pulled in an astounding $1 billion, just behind The Super Mario Bros Movie (1.4B), but well ahead of traditional blockbusters such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($845.3M), Fast X ($704.7M) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ($683.8M), according to Box Office Mojo.
Barbie director Greta Gerwig, 40, now holds the distinction of being the first solo female director to have a movie cross the billion-dollar threshold.
Coming up in second place this week was the horror-thriller sequel Meg 2: The Trench.

Calculations for the historical drama starring Cillian Murphy as ‘the father of the atomic bomb,’ Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. equaled $28.7 million.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jumped into action in fourth place.
The animated action adventure written by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and director Jeff Row entered the fray, pulling in $28 million, which was a sizable first-weekend domestic gross for the film, which only cost around $70 million.
The Haunted Mansion had an eerie drop, moving from third to fifth place.
The comedy based on the Disney parks experience starring Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield and Owen Wilson suffered a 62-percent drop, scaring up only $8.97 million its second week out.
Sound of Freedom dropped from fourth place to sixth.

Slate reported the film has pushed strong ticket sales through a pay-it-forward kind of marketing in which Caviezel speaks to the audience via video at the end of the show suggesting they buy advance tickets for their friends while still at the theater.
Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One landed squarely in seventh place.
The spy adventure costarring Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson and Ving Rhames parachuted in with a total take of $6.45 million.
Talk to Me made its mark at number eight.
The otherworldly thriller about a group of friends who can conjure spirits with help from an embalmed hand filled seats to the tune of $6.27 million.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is still digging up box office treasure.

The total weekend tally amounted to an estimated $178 million helping the domestic box office soar higher than $6 billion for the period of January to August.
It was a 22 percent increase over the same period last year, according to Deadline.
Red White and Royal Blue, a bromance involving the son of the US president and a British prince opens next week, along with the horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
