BBC Radio 2 host Vernon Kay gives gruesome update on ultra marathon injury

Vernon Kay has shared a gruesome update on the rather nasty-looking blisters he sustained while completing his 115-mile ultramarathon in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. The 49-year-old BBC Radio 2 presenter raised over £6million for Children In Need during the gruelling four-day challenge.

Tonight, Veron spoke to Express.co.uk at the Heart Hero Awards. The star proudly shared that it is his fifth year of hosting the awards, and his first year as an ambassador.

Speaking about his injuries on the red carpet, the star graciously said: “On the scale of things, a couple of dodgy knees and a wonky ankle is kind of nothing…” It comes after Vernon previously admitted he was suffering from various aches and pains.

Quizzed on the nasty-looking blisters he previously shared to his Instagram story in view of his 873,000 followers, Vernon provided a grizzly update. The star revealed that one of his toe nails might soon fall off his foot.

“Actually, funnily enough, this evening I’ve come out and I don’t know what’s going on with one of my little toes…” he said. “But the nail is starting to slide off that!”

It comes after Vernon, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, told his fellow BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball that he was feeling worse for wear following the challenge.

He explained: “Well my achilles are shattered to bits, that’s completely gone.

“I’ve got to have a little bit of work on that, the knees are aching, calves are sore.

“Thighs and quads, gluteus maximus is a little bit achy as well.

“But to be expected, and apart from that, we raised six million quid!”

Vernon started his 115-mile trek from Victoria Park in Leicester to the finish line at Bolton Wanderers’ stadium over four days.

Listeners were regularly given updates about his progress as his “physically and mentally draining” challenge unfolded.

Vernon spoke to Express.co.uk at the Heart Hero Awards, which celebrates the incredible fundraisers, young advocates, lifesavers, healthcare professionals and outstanding supporters who go above and beyond for British Heart Foundation.
