Sports Personality of the Year 2018: Beth Tweddle shows a hint of a baby bump after announcing she is four months pregnant with her and husband Andy Allen’s first child

She announced that she is four months pregnant with her first child earlier this week.

And Beth Tweddle showed the first signs of her growing baby bump as she attended the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year at The Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham on Sunday. 

The Olympic medallist, 33, arrived at the event alongside her husband Andy Allen, after posting on Instagram that the couple were expecting a baby in May 2019.

She opted for a demure striped dress, which closely hugged her little bump, as she posed for paparazzi on the red carpet.

Beth’s stylish frock featured frill cuffs and an A-line skirt, which she teamed with a pair of pale pink stilettos and a matching clutch bag.

The retired British artistic gymnast opted for a glamorous coat of make-up, and styled her hair in loose ringlets.

Andy was suited and booted in a smart grey blue suit and maroon tie, which he wore with a pair of brown dress shoes. 

Beth, who tied the knot to finance director Andy in June, revealed their happy news on Instagram on Wednesday, writing: ‘Really excited to share the news that Andy and I are expecting our first child in May 2019.’

She shared a picture of a blackboard under a Christmas tree which read: ‘Our greatest gift is due to be unwrapped May 2019.’

Beth recently said she was looking forward to ‘opening the new book’ after a gruelling two-year recovery from her horrific skiing accident on Channel 4’s The Jump in 2016.

She was pictured making a rare red carpet appearance back in September, at the Team GB ball held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London.

Beth has had a busy few months as she married her long-term beau Andy in a stunning ceremony in Cheshire in June. 

Describing the day as ‘magical’, Beth told Hello! her wedding had been particularly special, as it marked the end of a traumatic time in her life.

She looked breathtaking in a flowing white gown as she tied the knot at St Boniface Church in the gymnast’s home of Bunbury, before hosting a lavish reception at the nearby Dorfold Hall.

A number of famous faces were in attendance, including The One Show’s Matt Baker, while her former Dancing On Ice partner Daniel Whiston acted as the master of ceremonies. 

Speaking to the magazine after the ceremony, the athlete revealed she has only just started to recover from the horrific injury she attained during her time on The Jump in 2016. 

Beth went crashing into barrier after one of her jumps, leaving her with two broken vertebrae in her neck – and unable to walk, dress or shower for many months.

Revealing she is still not back to full health after two years of treatment, she said: ‘There are still moments where I’ll do something and it hits home that it happened. I’m not 100 per cent better yet, physically or mentally.’

Her new husband, however, has been instrumental in helping nurse her back to health. 

She said: ‘He is the one waking me up and seeing me sobbing my heart out. My parents and friends have been there for me but Andy is the one who sees me at night when I am really struggling.’

She also said marriage marked a new, much more positive chapter of her life – helping her look forward to the future, despite her injury.

‘It’s like we’re opening up a new book. We’re excited about the future and have loads to look forward to,’ she said.

‘We’re ambitious, love to travel and we’re still bedding into our new house… and we’d love a family so who knows. Watch this space!’

The pair became engaged in Brazil during the 2016 Rio Olympics, after two years of dating.

Beth dated Steve Cryer from 2010 before calling it quits via text message in February 2013.
