Britney Spears Is “Very Happy” with Her Fathers Conservatorship Suspension, Lawyer Says

Britney Spears is celebrating a major win in her conservatorship case.

On Wednesday, a California judge officially suspended Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, as the conservator overseeing her estate. Jamie has legally overseen Britney’s professional and personal affairs for the last 13 years following the pop star’s highly publicized breakdown in 2007.

Earlier this summer, Britney spoke out publicly about her experience under the conservatorship for the first time, revealing that she was losing sleep and was depressed over the state of the legal arrangement; she also accused her father of “conservatorship abuse.”

Following yesterday’s court ruling, Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, spoke with press, and according to E! News, said that Britney was “very happy” with her father’s suspension.

“This is a substantial step toward her freedom,” Rosengart said during a press conference. “It’s been a lot of hard work. It’s been intense. I’m proud. Britney’s proud.”

According to People, Spears and her fiancé, Sam Asghari, went on a low-key vacation ahead of the hearing to avoid excessive stress over the court decision.

“Britney and Sam are currently out of town on vacation. She wanted to take the stress off ahead of today,” a source told the outlet. “Of course she’s happy with the result of the hearing.”

Over on Instagram, the pop star shared a post shortly after the court decision was made public, featuring her enjoying what appears to be a tropical plane ride.
