She shocked fans last year when she showed off her staggering 8st weight loss after having a gastric sleeve, and now Chanelle Hayes has exclusively revealed that she hasn’t stopped on her surgery journey and is planning a tummy tuck and boob lift.
The former Big Brother star was spotted last week on the beach in Tenerife, where she enjoyed a three-day winter break with a friend. Chanelle reveals to us that she’s lost 1st 5lb since last summer through the stress of juggling a hectic schedule as a student nurse and mum to sons Blakely, 12, and five-year-old Frankie.
However, while she “feels a million times better” since having the gastric sleeve surgery in August 2020, she is planning to have a tummy tuck because she’s worried the loose skin she has is “ageing”.
Chanelle, 35, admits, “I’m 8st now and a dress size 6-8. Last summer, I was around 9st 5lb and before having the sleeve fitted, I was a size 22 and 17st 4lb. I’ve actually been really stressed with university deadlines and the children’s schedules with schools and their dads and I think that’s caused the weight loss.
“It means I’ve got more loose skin, so while I still feel a million times better than I did when I was unhealthy, I’m now thinking, ‘Maybe I want to do something about this,’ so I’m considering a tummy tuck.
“I feel like it’s ageing me a bit. I haven’t spoken to a professional yet but I need to look into options. I’m all for body positivity and feeling confident in your own skin, but I also believe that each person has their own choice about their body.
"I don’t want to set unrealistic examples to people but I also want to stay confident and happy in my own skin and if that means having surgery to improve my mental health then so be it.
“While I’m happy with my body in that it’s doing a good job for me at the minute, there are things I’d always want to change and it’s about exploring those avenues.”
Along with a tummy tuck, Chanelle – who underwent a hair transplant in 2020 due to hair loss as a result of her yo-yo dieting over the years – is also planning to have her breast implants removed and a boob uplift after completing her university studies next year as she believes her breasts are “disfigured” following the weight loss.
She says, “I’ll potentially get it done with the same surgery. It’s not even that they’re saggy, it’s actually a bit of disfigurement – the implants I had done in 2010 went under my muscle and my breast tissue is now under my ribs, so it’s like there are four separate breasts.
“I’d have my implants removed or perhaps switched to smaller ones. The surgeon would have to remove all the loose skin and put it back up where it meets in the middle. My nipples are doing more hanging out with my knees at the moment than my chest, so it’ll be nice to be reunited with them!”
Since having the gastric surgery, Chanelle’s diet changed from large, carb-heavy meals such as four pieces of toast for breakfast, a three-course meal for lunch, takeaways for dinner and midnight snacks such as biscuits, to porridge with raisins, a much smaller lunch and steak, potatoes and vegetables for dinner.
She admits that portion size has been key in her maintaining the weight loss.
“I still have some of the same meals, like today I’m having leftover Chinese for lunch, but it’s the volume of what I eat that has reduced massively.
“I can still eat everything, but I just get really full quickly. Sometimes if I eat too much of something or something that would be considered as a treat, like a rich cheesecake, I might end up with this thing called dumping syndrome, where you end up with tummyache.
"Sometimes it can empty your gastric system really rapidly, so you end up on the toilet. Occasionally I’ll have that, but mainly I can eat what I want but just in small quantities.”
Last May, Chanelle got engaged to accountant Dan Bingham and while there’s currently no date in the diary for the big day due to her indecisiveness as to whether she wants a “huge” wedding or a low-key affair in a register office, she admits that she’d like to gain a bit more weight before a wedding dress fitting takes place.
She admits, “I’d like to put on a bit of weight before that. I want to feel comfortable. I don’t want to be like, ‘Oh, my arms are really saggy.’ I just want to feel nice on my wedding day.
“I met Dan when I was a size 14. He doesn’t want me to have any surgery. He says he loves me exactly as I am and says, ‘Don’t take the risk of being put to sleep.’
"And I’m like, ‘Dan, if it’s something that’s going to make me feel more confident and more happy, then you don’t get a say in it, it’s my body. I appreciate you like it as it is, but it’s not yours!’”
