Cheryl forced to listen to Liam Payne’s new song in awkward Radio 1 exchange

Cheryl was forced to play her ex-boyfriend’s new song after he messaged her while she was live on air with Nick Grimshaw.

The awkward exchange came while Cheryl and Grimmy co-hosted his Radio 1 drive-time show, when Cheryl got a text from Liam Payne – who she split from earlier this summer.

Grimmy announced they were going to have to listen to Polaroid, with Liam made with Jonas Blue and Lennon Stella halfway through the show, after Cheryl had already demanded he make her new song Love Made Me Do It his Tune of the Week.

"We are going to play Liam Payne in a second," Grimmy volunteered, as Cheryl awkwardly exhaled.

"And we’re playing Liam Payne not out of choice but – well it is out of choice, but he has been on to request it via Cheryl."

"No… I do love the song," Cheryl said hesitantly, "but he did say, ‘play my song, aha’.

"Is he listening now?" Grimmy wanted to know. "And what does he think of the show so far? We’d like some feedback please, Liam."

Cheryl revealed: "Yeah he loves it. Says we’re hilarious and this should be a permanent thing."

Nick then brought up the fact they both have singles out at the moment, and wanted to know if there was any rivalry.

"So are you head to head in the charts or anything?" he asked.

Swerving the question, Cheryl replied: "Not that I’m aware of, see I’m still wrapping my head around the new way it works. His has been out for about a month now, I think at one point we were close together in one of the charts but I’m still getting to grips with how it all works."

"Well I guess we should play it then," Grimmy said, to which Cheryl shot back: "Woohoo."
