Debbie McGee brutally mocked by Jonathan Ross over distracting art in BBC News interview

This Morning: Debbie McGee discusses the Magic Circle

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Debbie McGee, 62, has prompted a cheeky remark from Jonathan Ross, 60, following her appearance on BBC News last night. The former magician’s assistant, who worked alongside her late husband Paul Daniels, caught the attention of the comedian due to her surprising home decor choice during her Zoom call with the programme.

Jonathan posted a screen grab of Debbie’s interview that appeared to show a life-size cardboard cutout of herself, which had been placed in the doorway behind her.

Debbie could be seen chatting away to the BBC in the snap, as a replica of her younger self lurked in the background.

The Jonathan Ross Show host wrote alongside it in view of his five million followers: “The fabulous Debbie McGee is on BBC news via zoom.

“With a life size cut-out of herself watching from the hallway.

“Now that’s a flex,” he quipped.

Fans flocked to the comments section of Jonathan’s post to share their thoughts on his bizarre discovery.

One person joked: “The lovely Debbie McGee and her evil, spiteful twin. Gebbie McDee.”

Another added: “Even if you were Debbie McGee, how could you sleep with that in the house?”

A third fan replied: “What if it wasn’t cardboard but her ghost telling her of Christmas past.”

A fourth person commented: “That’s messed with my head more than I expected it to!”

However, a fifth fan pointed out that the supposed cardboard cutout was in fact a portrait of Debbie.

They informed Jonathan: “It’s a painting on a wall! You need to get yourself some glasses!”

It comes after Debbie’s appearance on ITV’s This Morning also confused viewers due to her interesting Zoom background at home.

Debbie was excited to talk to hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond about a special event being held by the Magic Circle on Sunday night, which members of the public could access on Facebook.

As Debbie got on with the discussion on Friday, some fans were left questioning her artwork.

One shared: “What’s that thing peeking out behind her? #ThisMorning,’ with another replying: “It looks creepy.”

A third said: “Think #DebbieMcGee is also embracing the trend as she’s got a portrait of herself peeking at the camera from the background #thismorning.”

It appeared to be a self-portrait of the former magician’s assistant, with Debbie explaining how she had managed to get into the prestigious magic society.

She said: “It’s unbelievable, I’m the first lady who’s ever got into that position.”

Debbie continued: “I remember back then, Paul threatened to resign unless they allowed women in.

“So, you know, it’s been such an era and now to finish off with that is just fantastic.”
