The ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ artist, who is partnering with a betting app called Stake, has been going hard in the paint with his sports bets, with him taking some costly losses in the past few months.
AceShowbiz –Drake “curse” is alive again. The “Certified Lover Boy” rapper has been mocked by UFC fighter Leon Edwards after he lost $200,000 for betting against the British mixed martial artist.
When Leon was asked about the “Honestly, Nevermind” star betting against him in the post-fight interview, the 30-year-old athlete said, “Next time, bet on me and get me one of those Rolexes that you gave Molly and Paddy. Send one my way,” referring to the rapper promising fighters Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett Rolexes after he won over $2 million betting on the fighters last month.
Drake put big money on UFC 278, which took place at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, August 20. The 35-year-old Grammy-winning artist, who has been doing a lot of sports betting recently due to his partnership with the Stake app, put up $230,000 on Jose Aldo to defeat Merab Dvalishvili. He also bet $200,000 that Kamaru Usman would beat Leon by K.O. in the headline match.
Unfortunately for Drizzy, both fighters took Ls. The Jose fight went the distance, with Merab winning by decision. As for Kamaru, he was defeated by a head kick in the final round of the matchup.
Since Drake partnered with the Stake betting app earlier this year, he’s been going hard in the paint with his sports bets, with the Canadian rap star taking some costly losses. In March, he lost $275,000 betting against Colby Covington in UFC 272.
In April, Drizzy picked the Brooklyn Nets to beat the Boston Celtics but Kevin Durant and team let him down. Instead of winning $2.2 million, Brooklyn’s loss cost the “God’s Plan” rapper over $400,000.
A month later, Drake lost $550,000 betting on Justin Ray Gaethje to beat Charles Oliveira in UFC 274. Also in May, the “One Dance” hitmaker lost more than $230,000 as he bet that Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc would win the Spanish Grand Prix.
Upon learning of Drake’s lost bets, many social media users believed that he’s “cursed,” with one person saying, “Damn. Drake is cursed, everyone he bets for loses.” A separate person echoed the sentiment, “Drake pls just go away mate. ur curse is real.”
