EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison bags first TV role in six years

Cheryl Fergison has revealed she's making a grand return to screens with the likes of Sheridan Smith and David Walliams.

The 56 year old, who was once forced to deny she was dead after a hoax spread across social media, is most well known for portraying the character Heather Trott on popular soap opera EastEnders, but left the TV show on 12 March 2012 after her character was killed by Ben Mitchell (Joshua Pascoe).

She went on to star TV series Big School in 2014, but hasn't taken on a major role on screen since then for the last six years.

Now, she has taken to her Instagram feed to share the exciting update of a new project with her 23,800 followers.

Sharing a snap of herself wearing a navy floral face mask, she wrote in the caption: "Where am I off to today ?? Well only back down to the smoke for a press release tomorrow with @dwalliams @sheridansmithster …. Are you ready press ?

"Yes it’s gonna be another must see Family watch … it’s a fantastic cast … and I’m so humbled and blessed to be in this," followed by a kissing emoji, a thumbs up emoji and a red heart emoji. She added: "Thanks to everyone for all your continued support," alongside a red heart emoji.

Sheridan, 40, was quick to reply to the post as she said: "Can’t wait to see you!!!" with a heart eyes emoji and a red heart emoji, to which Cheryl responded: "@sheridansmithster let’s have a giggle Mrs," with a kissing emoji, thumbs up emoji, red heart emoji, clapping hands emoji and a smiling emoji.

Meanwhile, many of her fans shared their excitement over the news as one person wrote: "An icon, a legend, you are the moment".

Another said: "This is so exciting Cheryl," with two pink heart emojis and a praying hands emoji.

While a third added: "It's great to see you getting back out there Cheryl! It's been far too long lovely and @bbceastenders has not been the same without you!! You and Linda Henry were absolutely awesome together!!!" with a fire emoji, celebration hands emoji and a red heart emoji.

Full details of the new project is set to be announced today on Thursday 4 November, however it's been speculated that she will be joining the upcoming Sky TV Christmas show Hansel & Gretel: After Ever After, which is set to star David and Sheridan.

Last year, Cheryl revealed she wanted to reprise her role as Heather Trott on EastEnders, despite being killed off.

Taking to Instagram, Cheryl shared a selfie where she challenged EastEnders’ writers to work out a way to bring her character back.

The actress, who shared a peak inside her family life, wrote: “Ok so I’ve had lots of people asking if I could go back to @bbceastenders as Hevs long lost twin …

"So writers there’s a challenge and actually there is a storyline that could defo make that possible ..

"Remember Hev’s mum ( she was a wicked one )and aunt babes terrible past story of selling babies !! …if you would like to see this epic come back let @bbceastenders know …”

Responding to her post, Cheryl’s followers responded with excitement at the possibility of her return to Albert Square.

One person wrote: “@bbceastenders Please! I 100% endorse this and am willing to champion and facilitate a brainstorming session to get this to happen.”

Another said: “100% luv to see Heather back in Eastenders be great make it happen.”
