Florence Welch is composing the music and writing the lyrics for a new musical adaptation of the novel “The Great Gatsby.”
Grammy nominee Thomas Bartlett, also known as Doveman, will collaborate on the project with Welch for “The Great Gatsby” musical.
The musical version of F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s famous 1925 novel is jointly produced by Len Blavatnik and Amanda Ghost for Unigram in association with Robert Fox.
“This book has haunted me for a large part of my life. It contains some of my favourite lines in literature,” Welch said in a statement. “Musicals were my first love, and I feel a deep connection to Fitzgerald’s broken romanticism.”
“It is an honour to have been offered the chance to recreate this book in song,” added the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of Florence and the Machine.
“Florence’s passion for Gatsby and exceptional musical storytelling will bring this iconic love story to life in ways we have never experienced before,” said the producers Ghost and Fox.
They added, “It’s been 100 years since The Great Gatsby was published, and there could be no better time for a new musical adaptation of the greatest party America ever threw.”
