What really happens on the red carpet: KATIE HIND goes behind the scenes at this year’s National Television Awards and speaks to a candid Holly Willoughby about her first without Phillip Schofield
For most accomplished celebrities, stopping on the red carpet to talk to journalists is a big no, no.
Some do a few television interviews but avoid newspaper journalists, others pose for pictures while those who really don’t want to be bothered avoid it altogether and go through the back door.
But Holly Willoughby, ITV‘s golden girl, threw that rule book out of the window on Tuesday night when she decided to face the press following two days of criticism of her post holiday performances on This Morning.
In previous years, she and Phil would simply pose for pictures before rushing in and ignoring reporters, particularly those from newspapers.
But this year she couldn’t have been chattier, spending 15 minutes on the red carpet with just her publicist at her side. So just why did she decide to do this?
Holly believes it is her job to keep the ship sailing, says the Daily Mail’s Consultant Editor of Showbusiness Katie Hind.
But she adds Holly will not give up on ‘winning back the trust of those watching’.
