Famed for presenting shows such as Big Brother, Long Lost Family, and many more, Davina McCall has become a household name over the last two decades. But it wasn't a smooth ride for the presenter, who battled drug addiction before rising to fame.
Admitting that she 'owes her life' to support group Narcotics Anonymous (NA), the star opened up on the extent of her addiction, and how she got clean, in a brutally honest chat.
Starring on Steven Bartlett's The Diary Of A CEO podcast back in January, Davina, who has previously spoken to OK! about her 'darkest days', shared many grisly details.
Now Steven, who has made his millions in social media, has shared a clip of Davina talking about her addictions on TikTok.
In the clip, Davina began: "I thought, oh god, I'm not just addicted to heroin, it's all drugs, I've got to stop.
"So, my best friend said she was going to take me to see Santana…she got me into her car, and I was like, 'I'm so excited, I can't wait to see Santana'. I got in the car and she shut the doors and said, 'I'm actually not going to take you to Santana, I need to tell you some things'.
"Weirdly, I had been off of heroin for a month at that point because I'd been away nannying for someone for two weeks and got clean. I'd also been with my mum in Morocco so I'd had no heroin for a month. But, I had just come off the back of a 24-hour cocaine bender, which made me realise that heroin wasn't my problem, all drugs were my problem."
Davina, who is now sober but still enjoys booze-free nights out on the town, continued to explain that she 'couldn't just take heroin' but had to take it for 24 hours, describing herself as 'an animal'.
"So, she gets me in the car and says, "I know you've been lying to me, we all know you've been lying to us – all your friends. You are the topic of conversation at every dinner party I go to". The shame then starts piling on and I started feeling a bit, well 'f**k you' to her."
It was this incident which made Davina realise something had to be done, going for a nap before finally calling up an old friend for help. "I had a car but no money to put petrol in the car…. I woke up and thought, 'I'm gonna phone someone for help, I'm f**ked, I can't do this anymore'.
Davina then shared how she called up a woman she knew was clean to ask about an NA meeting, deciding to go along with her the next day. Feeling 'so full of shame', the star then continued to go to meetings for 90 days after, admitting how she would 'sob' in every one.
"NA taught me how to live, and how to change and heal myself. I owe NA my life, but it also gave me my career. Weirdly, after trying to get a job at MTV while I was using, the time they say to come in for a screen test, I was six months clean and I didn't mess it up."
Despite being sober for over 20 years, Davina previously shared how she was completely honest with her three children on the addiction, out of fear that they would find out online.
