James Charles loses 2.2 million subscribers in three days amid Tati drama

James Charles had a pretty bad weekend – and things are just getting worse.

The 19-year-old has been haemorrhaging YouTube subscribers ever since former friend Tati Westbrook called him out on her channel.

And just three days after Tati uploaded her ‘BYE SISTER’ video, James has lost 2.2 million subscribers on his own channel.

On the day Tati uploaded her 45 minute call-out, James lost 538,000 fans, while on Saturday, 1.2 million people tapped unsubscribe on his channel – with 700,000 people ditching him on Sunday.

The make-up guru still has 13.8 million subscribers, but he’ll most definitely be feeling the dent. Amongst those who have unsubscribed are Miley Cyrus, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian.

Meanwhile this scandal has only helped Tati, 37, who has increased her following by a third.

Tati has gained 3 million followers since Friday, with 1.2 million subscribers joining her channel the day after she uploaded her video – bringing Tati’s subscriber count to 9 million, as opposed to 5.8m this time last week.

A major vlogger scandal has played out over the past few days, with Tati deciding to take her and James’ vitamin beef public after the make-up artist promoted Sugar Bear Hair – a direct competitor to Tati’s Halo Beauty.

James initially apologised, claiming that he’d only worked with Sugar Bear Hair because they had helped him with security when he was at Coachella and the crowd became unsafe.

However, in her video, Tati claimed that there had been tension brewing in their friendship due to numerous things, including James allegedly talking about sex at her birthday dinner, ‘manipulating people’s sexuality’, and trying to make a documentary about the dark side of the beauty YouTube world (which she felt was not respectful to the industry).

Tati also stated that she didn’t believe James’ Coachella story, as well as saying she had ‘had enough’ with his ‘over-sexualised’ online presence despite his young following.

James later issued a tearful apology on his own channel, saying: ‘I hate knowing that I disappointed not only [my fans], but two people that have been role models for me doing this. What sucks the most is that I know there’s nothing I can say or do to ever earn that friendship or trust back but I don’t blame them for it.

He added: ‘I’ve learned the hard way about the ways I can interact with boys this is a conversation I should have been far more careful bringing into the public eye.

‘She (Tati) told me how it looked from the outside, she said talking to these boys might get you in trouble one day, and she was right.’
