James Haskell admits he has ‘court battles to come’ following his split from Chloe Madeley as he confides in rugby pal Mike Tindall
James Haskell has been confiding in his rugby pal, Mike Tindall, after announcing he has separated from wife Chloe Madeley.
Chloe, 36, and James, 38, confirmed the end of their marriage last week, just over a year after welcoming their first child, daughter Bodhi.
In the days since the announcement former England international player James has spoken about the tough time with Zara Tindall’s husband, Mike, admitting they were preparing to face a court battle.
The pair were in conversation on Wednesday night for the the second date in the live tour of their podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, with James tackling the big issue head on.
‘So for those of you who don’t know, my missus and I are separated,’ he told the audience at the the London Palladium. ‘We’re separated but we’re committed 100 per cent to my daughter.’

‘It’s obviously a complicated time and we have to play it out in front of the media. Because I haven’t said anything, people fill that void and fill that silence.’
‘And obviously this week, in the last sort of three or four weeks, there’s been lots of conjecture.’
Despite some heated scenes together on their ITV reality show A Family Affair, James insisted during the conversation with Mike and Alex Payne that he and Chloe ‘don’t really argue’.
He did admit though that he needed a lawyer friend for ‘business’ following the split and said: ‘We’ve had some court battles, have some court battles to come with a few other bits and things.’
James referenced his split with Chloe several times during the event with his pal, as well as joking at one point that he was ‘gonna need’ his public school education to charm girls.
In one skit, he teased: ‘Rum and milk? Is he a prostitute from 1835? I think Jack the Ripper killed someone with a gin and milk. Sweeney Todd cuts up his heroin… good references, educated, public school, don’t worry. Quadruple threat. I’m gonna need it now I’m single. I’m joking. Not really though.’
On Tuesday night James made a series of vile remarks while recording another installment of the podcast.
During the show, he and his co-hosts performed at the G-Live centre in Guildford, Surrey, to a packed house – with James mentioning several times during the two-and-a-half-hour performance, his failed relationship.

During the first half of the show the audience had laughed as he had poked fun at himself, but it was his joke referring to the collapse of the Twin Towers – which left almost 3,000 dead in 2001 – that led to an audible sharp intake of breath from the crowd.
James – who littered his performance with four letter words – relayed a story about former England coach Andy Farrell asking players to be honest with him and staff about their methods at the team training centre.
He said: ’He went straight to Tom Wood, right, former player and he crumpled like the Twin Towers….’
The audience then gasped and someone shouted ‘Jesus!’
James said: ’What? Too obscene? F**k off, that was 9/11 dickhead, its 2023 time to get over it.’
As the audience uncomfortably turned in their seats, he went on: ‘I’m joking, joking’.
He then laughed nervously and added: ‘It’s alright. Don’t worry I’m not coming back to Guildford, it’s alright.’
His co-hosts held their heads as he cracked the joke and then carried on the anecdote to the muted crowd with one overheard telling a pal: ’That was a bit near the knuckle.’
The podcast recording was James’ first work commitment since announcing the end of his five-year marriage to Chloe.

Chloe and James, who married in 2018, had fuelled speculation about their relationship after the personal trainer emerged without her wedding ring as she partied with friends – shortly after the former rugby player was pictured chatting to a mystery blonde outside a London nightspot.
In a joint update shared to Instagram last week, they announced: ‘Chloe and I mutually decided to separate at the end of September, 2023.
‘We had not planned on releasing a statement at this time – certainly not while the television show was airing – but constant speculation about our marriage has, unfortunately, forced our hand.
‘Beyond this statement, we will not be speaking about this matter publicly, and we would request privacy at this time.
‘Our sole focus now is our beautiful daughter. We shall continue to co-parent with nothing but love.’
