Pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez and former MLB star Alex Rodriguez have separated and officially ended their engagement.
The couple, who have been together since 2017, have called off their two-year engagement and now plan to focus on remaining friends, according to a statement to NCB’s “Today” show.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects,” the couple said in the statement.
They added, “We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Rumors about their breakup started earlier this week after Lopez shared a few selfies from the set of her new movie, Shotgun Wedding, in which her engagement ring was missing.
Lopez and Rodriguez announced their engagement in March 2019 after two years of dating.
Lopez was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd and Marc Anthony, with whom she shares 13-year-old twins, Max and Emme. Rodriguez was previously married to Cynthia Scurtis and shares two teenage daughters Natasha and Ella.
