‘Jeopardy!’ Unveils First Look at Socially Distanced Set For Season 37

Jeopardy! has just unveiled the design of its new set for the upcoming season, which premieres tonight, September 14.

In a short promo video for the popular quiz show, you can see that instead of a bank of podiums for the contestants, they’re now separated and six feet apart due new filming protocols in the pandemic era.

Another change you’ll see in the visual is that there is a skeleton staff and no audience. Not even Johnny Gilbert, who announces the contestants and introduces host Alex Trebek is in the studio.

Johnny, now 96, has been recording the introductions from his home.

“We have done the same thing for our staff and crew. We’re trying to provide as safe an environment as possible as we produce these new programs for your enjoyment,” Alex shared about the new look of the show.

He also revealed that returning champion Zach Newkirk will not be returning for the first few weeks, due to travel constrictions. However, he will return eventually.

Ken Jennings, who recently won the Greatest Of All Time! tournament earlier this year, is back on the show in a consulting producer role.

“I kind of feel like I have a unique perspective on Jeopardy!. I’ve been a fan of the show for over 35 years now, it’s a huge part of my life growing up. And then for the last 15 years, seeing the show as a contestant,” Ken shared with GMA in support of the show this week.

He’ll be helping to present video categories, working with the writers on clues, and also be part of contestant outreach as casting goes virtual.

Jeopardy!‘s season 37 will premiere tonight, September 14. Check your local listings for time and network.
