John Prine dead: Country singer dies aged 72 after suffering coronavirus symptoms

John Prine, best known for his **, has died days due to complications from COVID-19. He was 73.

The singer was hospitalised on March 26 with coronavirus symptoms and was reportedly in intensive care 13 days at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee.

His family confirmed his death to several US media outlets including The New York Times, Rolling Stone and Variety.

A statement was released on his behalf to confirm that he had been hospitalised after showing symptoms of the deadly virus on March 17, as his health deteriorated in the days afterwards.

His management said he died on Tuesday with the cause of death being complications from the virus.

His family posted a moving update to fans on Twitter to share the heartbreaking news of his passing.

“This is hard news for us to share. But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the chance to send on more of that love and support now.
