Adidas has ended its partnership with Kanye West, legally now called Ye, after the US rapper faced public criticism for antisemitic posts on social media.
In a statement, the German sportswear company said: “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech.
"Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.
“After a thorough review, the company has taken the decision to terminate the partnership with Ye immediately, end production of Yeezy-branded products and stop all payments to Ye and his companies."
The brand went on to share that they will halt the "adidas Yeezy business with immediate effect," following on from the review.
They continued: “This is expected to have a short-term negative impact of up to 250 million euro on the company’s net income in 2022 given the high seasonality of the fourth quarter."
“Adidas is the sole owner of all design rights to existing products as well as previous and new colourways under the partnership," they shared, adding: "More information will be given as part of the company’s upcoming Q3 earnings announcement on November 9 2022.”
The news comes after Kanye, 45, recently spoke to Piers Morgan on his show Uncensored, where he called the presenter a "Karen".
In a clip from the chat, Piers questioned Kanye about his heavily condemned antisemitic tweet.
When asked by Piers if he was sorry for his post, Kanye at first stated that he has “no regrets”, before appearing to apologise.
Kanye then stormed out of the interview, before returning and laying into Piers.
He fumed: "You're being a Karen; you don't hold accountability to the pain.”
A ‘Karen’ refers to a person of self-entitlement who weaponises their privileged position and uses micro-aggressions to cause harm onto others.
Piers replied: “I'm not a Karen and I'm not going to cancel you and I'm not going to censor you, I'm simply going to challenge you on what you're saying.”
The presenter went on to speak about the “pain caused” by Kanye’s tweet, to which he replied: “God forbid one comment could cause people to feel any of the pain that my people have went through for years.
"Even the Blacks being ushered to the left during the civil rights movement, no one has cared about black people!"
