Kate Garraway was seen heading home with an arm full of paperwork as she stepped out for the first time since giving fans an update on her husband, Derek.
The presenter, 53, looked deep in thought as she headed to her house with two files full of documents.
She had earlier revealed that doctors had warned her that her husband could be locked in a coma forever, after being in hospital since the start of April.
Derek, 52, who has been married to Kate for 15 years, was put into an induced coma in April after contracting coronavirus, in order to give his lungs a chance to fight the virus.
Although Derek is now free of coronavirus, doctors have warned Kate that he may never recover from the damage caused by the infection.
Kate revealed that she had thought the worst when she got a call from a consultant looking after her husband, worrying that they were phoning to tell her he had died.
She told The Sun: ‘[He] asked me what my greatest fear was. I said, “Derek dying” and he replied, “Well, now I think I have to give you a second worst case scenario, which is that he never changes from this. That he is locked in this for ever”.
‘He said, “I’m not telling you this to scare you. It’s because we don’t know if he can recover. We’ll only know over the coming weeks and months”.
‘I threw up, there and then. People had said to me before that they thought he was going to die, but not that he might stay in this state.’
She admitted the thought of him staying in a coma forever would be like a ‘second level of loss’ but said she would never give up on him even if that ended up being the case.
Kate explained that the new challenges mean ‘the battle has changed’ as Derek is now no longer fighting against the virus itself but the damage it has caused to his body.
Some of the problems the coronavirus has left him with is a tracheotomy which he breathes through, holes in his heart, his kidneys need dialysis, he has a damaged liver and Derek is now diabetic as a result of damage to his pancreas.
Kate revealed that doctors had been trying to bring Derek out of his induced coma for three weeks but he hasn’t managed to regain consciousness.
