Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper “doesn’t look like he’s in a good way” the presenter’s Smooth FM co-star Jenni Falconer told listeners on her show on Tuesday. Kate and her family faced more heartache last week after Derek, 56, suffered from a heart attack amid his ongoing health woes.
Sending love to the family, Jenni said: “On behalf of everyone here at Smooth we’re sending lots of love and Smooth best wishes to our very own Kate Garraway. Kate’s husband Derek as we all know has been struggling with long-lasting damage since he suffered from covid and it doesn’t look good at the moment, it doesn’t look like he’s in a good way.
“So we’re sending lots of love to Kate, Derek and the family… especially at this time of the year.” Kate has cancelled all her radio and TV commitments to be by her husband’s side.
Jenni’s words come after a source close to the family revealed Kate could be spending some of the Christmas period in hospital with Derek. They told The Mirror: “Derek suffered a massive heart attack which has left him fighting for his life all over again. It was sudden and a shock as he had been doing well and was in great spirits, looking forward to Christmas at home with the family.
“We just hope there will be some more positive news soon as he has been in such a long and tough battle with his health. Kate’s only focus right now is Derek and her family.”

On Saturday, a source told The Sun that loved ones are praying “for a miracle” for Derek after his “sudden” new health scare. They added Kate and their children Darcy, 17, and Billy, 14, are “trying to manage their expectations of a family Christmas”.
Speaking of her Christmas plans with OK! Magazine recently, Kate said it was easier for people to come to her house as it was “challenging” for Derek to travel. She joked: “It’s easier for people to come to us, which means they have to suffer my cooking!”

Kate’s went on to say the family’s festivities are likely to last several days with the help of her parents Marilyn and Gordon.
