Kim Kardashian and the rest of her family have reportedly been omitted from the exclusive guest list for the upcoming Met Gala.
The iconic first Monday in May is always reserved for the world’s fashion elite to strut their stuff on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The Kardashians have been a staple at the annual event since a pregnant Kim, 42, first stepped into the event way back in 2013 alongside her now ex-husband Kanye West.
But, according to Page Six, times have certainly changed, and the entire family have been snubbed by the Gala boss and Editor-in-Chief of US Vogue, Anna Wintour.
Sources close to the event claim Anna is cracking down on the exclusive guest list, and the Kardashians didn’t make the cut.
However, a contradictory source close to the LA-based family has denied the claims, seemingly confirming that Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie, Kendall and 'momager' Kris will be in attendance in just under two months' time.
The Met Gala 2023 theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty in tribute to the late designer who passed away in 2019.
Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton is stepping up to design the exhibition as usual, with guests given “in honour of Karl” as the official dress code.
With decades worth of work to choose from, this year’s attendees could pick ensembles inspired by Karl’s work at fashion houses like Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou and his own brand.
Fans are always excited to see the Gala’s hosts, who, alongside Anna, are Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa.
While the Kardashian’s inclusion is yet to be seen, their stamp on the Gala throughout the years is without question as they continued to dazzle fans and friends which each new appearance.
In 2018, during the Gala’s Heavenly Bodies theme, Kim appeared on the carpet in a figure-hugging Versace gold gown that was made from chainmail and featured an embellished cross on the hip.
Arguably one of her most famous looks came only last year when, after a year off due to the pandemic, she arrived at the Gala in one of Marilyn Monroe’s dresses.
The blonde bombshell had donned the dress for her iconic performance of Happy Birthday Mr President, which definitely kept with the year’s theme of America: An Anthology of Fashion.
While she only wore the gown for a few minutes before changing into a replica for the rest of the evening, it was later revealed that the dress had sustained damage.
Historian and collector Scott Fortner released images of the damage as he detailed: “I think the disappointment that I’m experiencing is Ripley has made multiple statements that they were doing everything that they could to protect and preserve the gown.
“I do feel that it [was] irresponsible, this is not just a dress. This is a cultural icon. It’s a political icon. It’s a Hollywood icon.
“It’s part of American history from an event that happened 60 years ago and…it should have been archived and preserved and taken care of.”
“I think a lot of people are really kind of coming down really hard on Kim Kardashian and that’s not my attempt here. It’s the most famous dress in the world,” he added. “Who wouldn’t want to wear the dress if they were given an opportunity to do so?”
