Last Of Us passes BILLION views in a week amid Black Panther triumph

The Last Of Us starring Pedro Pascal passes a BILLION streaming views in just one week… while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever tops ratings chart

The Last Of Us, the new zombie series starring heartthrob Pedro Pascal, has proven itself a hit in the latest Nielsen ratings.

Over the past measuring period, the series passed a billion views in one week for its first time ever, hitting approximately 1.2 billion, Deadline reports.

The Nielsen streaming count notably only includes HBO Max and does not account for the audience who watched the show on the HBO television channel.

Five episodes were on HBO Max when the 1.2 billion was tallied, each running anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes.

Based on a popular video game, the series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after a fungal pandemic that turns the infected into zombies.

The Last Of Us’ coup comes after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever debuted at the top of the Nielsen streaming charts in its first week on Disney+.

Chadwick Boseman, who played the title character in the first movie, died tragically in 2020 at the age of 43 after a secret years-long cancer battle.

Without Chadwick, the sequel managed to net over $800 million at the box office upon its theatrical release in November but still came in below expectations.

However, after it bowed on Disney+ on February 1, the movie racked up 2.3 billion viewing minutes in the week ending February 5.

In doing so, it enjoyed the third-best streaming week of any movie since 2020 after Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Hocus Pocus 2.

Chadwick died with his wife Taylor Simone Leonard at his side in August 2020, after a four-year battle with colon cancer that he hid from the public.

Black Panther at the time already had a sequel in the works, and the film that eventually got made wound up excluding his character rather than recasting it.

Several members of the original Black Panther cast including Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright returned for the sequel.
