Lewis Capaldi made a rare public appearance in Glasgow, despite having announced he was stepping away from the limelight and cancelling upcoming shows.
The 26 year old surprised guests when he took to the stage at Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket on Sunday, 24 September, to support The Emmie Smillie Charity Foundation, announcing the grand total that the event had raised for the charity – a whopping £134,000.
Wearing a dark blue jacket, white T-shirt and trainers, Lewis appeared in high spirits and said: "I'm here on behalf of the charity and the family to thank you all for coming out and raising as much money as we have today." The crowd, who were shocked to see the Someone You Loved singer, cheered him on.
The event, sponsored by Fake Bake, also welcomed Peter Andre as a surprise act, who sang his hits including Flava and Mysterious Girl, with TV presenter Jean Johansson dancing along in the crowd.
Lewis decided to step away from performing after struggling with his Tourette’s during his set at Glastonbury. In a moving statement released following the performance, he said he would be taking a break for the "foreseeable future" as he needed to spend more time getting his “mental and physical health in order”.
He wrote: "Hello everyone. First of all, thank to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world. The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it an easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the forseeable future."
"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.
"I know I'm incredibly fortunate to take some time out when others can't and I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I've needed it more than ever."
