Love Island’s Jack Keating says becoming a dad was ‘big shock’ in rare parenting insight

Former Love Island star Jack Keating has opened up about becoming a dad in a new interview.

Speaking to Goss.ie, the 24 year old said that he is “so happy” and that he has always wanted to be a parent, but added that it was a 'big shock.'

"It wasn’t part of the plan. It was a big shock, but the past few months have been amazing," he said.

He says that having now five month old Maya, who he shares with artist Keely Iqbal, has meant his priorities have changed and that he is “not the important person anymore.”

And despite his family being well-known, what with his dad being Boyzone member Ronan Keating, he prefers to keep his life on the down low.

Jack revealed that he plans to have his daughter over the weekends once her mum – who he is no longer with – has finished breastfeeding.

Discussing co-parenting, he was positive about his relationship with Keely, and said: “She lives up in Birmingham at the moment, and I’m in London. So I get up to see Maya as much as possible, which is lovely.

"She’s finishing breastfeeding soon as well which is going to be great because I’ll be able to spend a bit more time with her.”

Announcing the birth of his daughter, the reality star shared a black and white photo of him holding the tiny bundle of joy and penned: "Welcome to the world my little [princess emoji]".

Talking to The Sun after welcoming Maya he said he was “besotted already” and called parenting an “exciting chapter.”

"My daughter's mother and I are not together, however we look forward to co-parenting and giving our little girl the best support system that she needs.

"This is an exciting new chapter for me and my family and I am completely besotted already.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a father and give my daughter the most amazing life."

Jack’s dad, Ronan, 47, was on The One Show just a few weeks after the news was announced and one of the co-hosts, Jermaine Jenas, referred to the singer as grandad, prompting him to reply: "Yes I am, my son had a gorgeous baby."

However he explained that he wanted to be known as “pops” rather than be called “grandad.”
