Lucy Beaumont named ‘worst ever’ GBBO contestant as Paul spits out her cake

Lucy Beaumont left the judges on The Great British Bake Off less than impressed during Sunday's celebrity special with Stand Up 2 Cancer.

The comedian, 39, was taking part in a special celebrity edition of the hit baking show to raise vital funds for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, alongside the likes of Tom Daley, David Morrissey and Adele Roberts.

Lucy's baking skills weren't quite up to scratch however, and her 'Sunday Lunch' cake was branded "bizarre" by judge Paul Hollywood, who even spat it out when he tasted it.

"I wouldn't say it's inedible, but it's on the way. I've never had a cake like it. It's bizarre," Paul told Lucy as she listened to the judges' feedback.

Lucy seemed unbothered by the criticism she'd received from Paul and his fellow judge Prue Leith however, and joked she'd simply "had a nice day out".

She said: "I've had a nice day out. I'd like to win the apron but I'm not being funny, I do have aprons at home."

Paul later criticised the star's baking again while out of earshot, and told Prue, along with hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas: "It's certainly one of the worst cakes we've ever seen in the tent!"

Noel couldn't resist poking fun at Lucy's baking too, and as he later went on to announce the winner of the show, he said: "The winner of star baker is Lucy… No of course it isn't."

The host then added: "If it was up to me you'd be the winner."

Also among those taking part in the celebrity special was Adele Roberts, who revealed she was undergoing chemotherapy when she appeared on the Channel 4 show.

The radio star, 44, who announced she was cancer-free in June last year, revealed in October 2021 that she had been diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer, and later had surgery to remove a tumour and began using a stoma bag.

Taking to Twitter after the show aired, Adele revealed that she was undergoing chemotherapy while on the show and had an ice machine to keep her cool.

Responding to a fan, she wrote: "Thank you so much Ryan! I was actually on chemo in the tent. I was overheating most of the time. I had an ice machine to keep me cool.

"I also can’t remember most of this. I know I had an amazing day… but watching it back now is so special #GBBO."
