Matt Baker: ‘That winds me up’ Countryfile host admits after gushing over his wife Nicola

Matt Baker has become a TV favourite up and down the country for his presenting roles on Countryfile and The One Show.

But the star admitted he isn’t entirely wholesome and has a temper like anyone else.

Revealing what irks him, Matt previously told The Mirror: “When I feel people aren’t working at their potential, that winds me up. I’m a real perfectionist, I don’t like slacking.”

He continued: If I get really annoyed I’ll bawl at people, I have a temper on me, but most of the time I keep it under control.”

Speaking to the publication, the star also opened up on his “rock”, his wife Nicola Mooney.

The presenter, who married Nicola in 2004, called his spouse “phenomenal” as he praised her.

“She’s phenomenal, my wife. She’s very patient,” he divulged. People say, ‘How do you fit so much in?’ But in truth I couldn’t if it wasn’t for her.”

Matt and Nicola are childhood sweethearts, having been a couple since they were 17-years-old.

He continued: “I was fortunate to meet her before it all kicked off. She was part of the reason I got Blue Peter – she filmed my video audition. We’re a team.”

Meanwhile, on The One Show earlier this week, Matt ended up schooling his co-host, Alex Jones, after she made a rather cheeky comment.

They were joined by comedian Sue Perkins, who was sitting on her very own Iron Throne, as they chatted about Game of Thrones.

Matt asked the viewers to get in touch with the show with pictures of their favourite chairs at home, and this was when his co-host, Alex, left Matt and Sue slightly flustered with her choice of language.

“Please do send us in pictures of the chair and that very person right now may be just sitting watching The One Show,” began Matt.

Alex then interjected: “It’ll usually be like a dirty recliner, won’t it?”

“Oh, filthy,” Sue replied.

Matt then stepped in to warn his co-host to move on, as he ordered: “Come on, now!”

He continued: “Don’t put the viewers down right at the beginning of the show.”

Sue then joked: “Imagine being accused of being on a filthy recliner.”

Alex added: “They might be on a very clean one,” to which Sue replied: “They might be at home sitting on something like this,” while pointing at her Iron Throne.

In an attempt to move the conversation on, Alex said: “Well, they could be. Hey, we’ll see what comes in.”

Matt then shouted: “Prove her wrong! Come on teams!”

The One Show continues tomorrow at 7pm on BBC One.
