Love Island: Maya Jama opens the 2023 final
Love Island presenter Maya Jama has admitted “live tv is a madness” following a blunder in the final, where Jess Harding and Sammy Root were crowned winners.
The star, 28, was introducing Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki’s best bits to ITV2 viewers, before a clip of Jess and Sammy’s highlights played instead, leaving fans baffled.
The confusion continued when Maya interviewed Love Island’s 2023 winners Sammy and Jess, as she told the couple they were about to see clips of their “best bits” in the villa – despite the clip already having aired.
Maya spoke out on the mishap in view of her 701,000 Twitter followers last night, as the issue caused a stir.
The host was responding to a fan who had praised her presenting skills, branding Maya “smooth, even when it goes wrong”.

Appreciating the kind words, Maya wrote back: “Guyssss live tv is a madness but we made it in the end, atleast you know it’s really live.”(sic)
Although Maya was quick to laugh off the mistake, fans rushed to the comments section of her tweet to debate whether Sammy and Jess were the correct winners.
One person complained: “Maya pls we need to see those votes.”

Another added: “Your the best part of the show. Not happy with ending and hope producers pull back and don’t over engage in season 11. Great job Maya!!”
“Yeah it’s a madness, I think you also said the wrong couple won babe..” A third unhappy viewer quipped.
A fourth person commented: “You made a mistake sis, it’s Whitney and Lochan are the winners not Sammy and Jess. Go ahead and run that back.”
However, others were quick to support Maya and the show, despite the result dividing viewers.
“Nobody is getting fired there is no conspiracy, Maya just got it wrong,” one Twitter user suggested.
Another defended Maya by pointing out “as if it’s her pressing the button for the videos – it’s the producers’ job!”
“Did you have a production slip up? Whitney and Lochan’s ‘best bits’ was actually Jess and Sammy?” A third viewer commented.
It comes after popular couple Whitney and Lochan were the bookies’ favourites to win, while Jess and Sammy admitted they didn’t expect to emerge victorious.
