Mike Tindall’s impressive medals show his love for Zara’s grandmother the Queen

Mike Tindall was seen wearing military style medals at Wednesday's Lying-in-State procession for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Despite not serving in any department of the military, Mike was keen to display his love for the Royal Family and pay tribute to the Queen by wearing his honours.

An Order of the British Empire medal was pinned to his jacket. Mike was awarded this medal for his services to rugby after the 2003 World Cup win against Australia – famously remembered for that Jonny Wilkinson drop-goal.

The other two medals the former sportsman wore were in celebration of the Queen's Diamond and Platinum Jubilees.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal is a commemorative medal that was made in 2012 to celebrate the late Queen’s 60th year on the throne.

It is silver and bears the Queen’s face, in a similar fashion to a coin, and is etched with the year of her coronation and the year of the jubilee.

The father of three received a medal as a member of the Royal Family.

Medals for the Platinum Jubilee were created in the same style, with a slightly different coloured band and different dates for the jubilee. This was the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II taking the throne.

The ex-England international, who has sung the God Save the Queen countless times during his rugby career, was also awarded an MBE in 2007 for his contribution to the sport.

The MBE medal was worn as well. Mike had previously worn it to the Service of Thanksgiving during the Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

Mike previously shared a touching tribute to the queen on his Instagram story, posting a simple love heart next to a projection of the Queen on the Sydney Opera house.

He has been married to Zara Tindall, the Queen's granddaughter, for over a decade and is thought to have had a good relationship with Her Majesty.

Mike and Zara attended Wednesday's ceremony together, and watched alongside other Royals the Queen's coffin was taken on a procession through central London to Westminster Hall, where the monarch is lying-in-state.

Zara wore an elegant black dress, with a hat and pearl earrings. Pearls are often referred to as "mourning jewellery", a tradition that dates back to Queen Victoria's era.
