Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating the love in your life. So this year, Pink is honoring her dad, Jim Moore, who she called her very first Valentine in a bittersweet Instagram tribute on Feb. 14. “Sometimes love leaves us too soon,” she wrote in her caption, in reference to Moore’s death in 2021. “On Valentine’s Day- I cherish the love I have that I can touch- and the love I have in my heart for those who have gone on to the next adventure. This one’s for you, Daddy Sir.”
She went on to give her followers a brief preview of her new song “When I Get There,” the lyrics speaking to some of the grief and love she shares for her father. The video began with Moore’s voice in the background, saying, “I thought it would be nice if you had some memories of how it all began and where you all came from.” Her father’s voice played over intimate video footage from Pink’s childhood and photos from her family’s journey through the years. As the memories continued to build, so did the piano, until Pink eventually let her powerful vocals take over. “I think of you when I think about forever,” she sang. “I hear a joke and I know you would’ve told it better.”
The song in Pink’s tribute is one of the first previews we’ve heard of her upcoming album, “Trustfall,” which releases on Feb. 17. As she previously explained on Good Morning America, she started writing the album at the height of the pandemic, and after losing her dad to cancer in August 2021, her perspective on life and music shifted. “It takes your kids getting sick to be like, ‘OK, none of this matters.’ I wanna see my kids grow up,” she said. “It’s very, very true to what I believe and where I am and what I’m feeling and what I think a lot of people are feeling.”
Fans can also look forward to collaborations with artists like The Lumineers and Chris Stapleton on “Trustfall,” as well as a Summer Carnival Tour starting in July, with guest performances from artists Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo, Brandi Carlile, and Grouplove.
