There's one specific drink that Prince Charles enjoys every evening before tucking into his dinner, according to one of his friends.

Charles' close pal Count Tibor Kalnoky appeared in new Channel 4 series The Real Windsors: The Outspoken Heir and revealed all about the royal's routine, after Charles travelled to visit him in Viscri, Transylvania many years ago.

There was one drink the 73 year old would enjoy "every night" while visiting the Eastern European country, where he eventually decided to buy small countryside house.

"He likes a martini before dinner, that's for sure," Count Tibor, who helped Charles find the perfect home in Transylvania, explained.

Opening up about his encounter with the future king of England, he went on to explain: "Prince Charles discovered this very unique corner of Europe and has been coming to this place every year."

"I showed him the place and he said it was everything he had been looking for. We spent some time renovating the whole thing," Count Tibor added.

Prince Charles purchased an 18-century house in Viscri after visiting Count Tibor, and a few years ago he turned it into a guest house. It is now a resorted UNESCO World Heritage site where anyone is welcome to spend the night.

Speaking about the historic home, Count Tibor said: "Some people say it I like staying the night in a museum, other people say it is like travelling back in time."

Transylvania is still Charles' favourite destination and he is known to regularly take trips to the idyllic Eastern European spot, which he considers to be his second home.

When taking trips, the 73 year old reportedly makes sure his food preferences are known beforehand and even brings along his own glass to enjoy his pre-dinner martini in.

Charles' choice of tipple differs hugely from his beloved mother the Queen's drink preference, and it appears the pair share very different tastes when it comes to food and drink.

The 96 year old monarch prefers a gin and Dubonnet instead, according to former royal chef Darren McGrady.

The royal chef previously explained: "All I said was she likes a gin and Dubonnet. That's her favourite drink. She doesn't wake up in the morning and have a large gin and tonic," as reported by the Express.

Darren went on to explain that the Queen only has a glass of her favourite German wine "in the evening", and ensured royal fans that the 96 year old "certainly doesn't drink four glasses a day."
