She was then sent home from hospital on Thursday, before being readmitted to treat sepsis, a kidney infection and a fever.

She wrote: ‘On Tuesday me and Andy went to hospital for our 12 week scan only to discover we’ve had a miscarriage which resulted in emergency surgery.’

‘I managed to leave hospital Thursday only to be readmitted Friday. After a day of treating sepsis, a kidney infection and a fever I’m slowly on the mend. Long way to go but I’m in the right place.

The swimmer had not yet announced the pregnancy to the public, with some rumours circulating back in July.

Andy and Rebecca tied the knot back in August with a Cheshire ceremony, five months after welcoming their son.

The pair met on dating app Bumble in 2018, with the swimmer gushing after their wedding ‘It worked out perfectly for us. We couldn’t be happier’.

The couple started dating two years after the swimmer split from her ex husband Harry, and she previously admitted she was nervous about dating again.

‘Any kind of date is a big thing when you’re not used to it, and I had never done online dating before,’ she told Hello! in 2020.

‘I was wary, not just because of who I am but because I have a daughter as well, so I was very careful to check accounts were verified and linked to real social media accounts.’

She adds: ‘I had only been using the app for a month and Andy was the first person I went on a date with, so I feel like I hit the jackpot.

The couple quickly fell in love and facilities manager Andy, 30, moved from Liverpool to live with Becky in Manchester in 2019.

Rebecca, who won two gold medals at the 2008 Olympics and two bronze medals at London 2012, was previously married to Summer’s father Harry – with the pair splitting in 2016.

As a result of Rebecca’s two gold medal win at the 2008 Summer Olympics, she became Britain’s first Olympic swimming champion since 1988.

Additionally, the sports star was the first British swimmer to win two Olympic gold medals since 1908.

In 2013, aged 23, she retired from all competitive swimming.

Rebecca has since made numerous media appearances, but most notably has worked for the BBC as a swimming pundit at the Olympic Games and World Aquatics Championships.

She was on TV screens earlier this month providing commentary for the BBC coverage of both the Commonwealth Games and the European Athletics Championships.
